Structured support for writers at every stage

How I Work With Writers

I offer structured packages designed to support writers at different stages of their journey, along with flexible single sessions for specific challenges that arise along the way.

What I Do & What I Don't

What I Do
What I Don't Do
Help writers explore their topics more comprehensively before and during early writing
Edit your writing (that's a copy editor)
Ask questions that uncover assumptions, biases, and blind spots
Restructure your manuscript or provide developmental feedback (that's a substantive editor)
Bring interdisciplinary perspectives to expand thinking
Provide expertise in your specific technical domain
Support writers in clarifying their core message and motivations
Give you advice for how to fix your writing
Address internal barriers that create "stuckness"
Give you answers or prescriptive solutions
Serve as a thinking partner during the lonely process of writing
Write content for you
Prepare writers for productive work with substantive editors
Offer step-by-step procedural guidance
Create follow-up questions to extend exploration between sessions
Provide ongoing support between sessions
Editors work with what you've written. I work with what you're thinking.

When I sit down with writers, I'm not there to provide answers or prescriptive solutions. There are some phenomenal book editors and marketers who do that work. Instead, I'm there to think alongside you, ask the questions that open up new possibilities, and create a space where you can do the deep work that great writing requires.

Important to Know

Working with me will likely contain some challenges. In the early and middle phases of writing, our work often opens things up and initially creates more questions than answers. This process might create temporary discomfort or complexity as we work through stuck points and challenge assumptions or current frameworks.

This is how breakthroughs happen—but writers should expect that moving forward sometimes requires confronting difficult questions and realities in order to pursue the deeper truths and communicate more effectively. For sessions in the late/completion phase, the focus shifts to construction, tightening, and addressing internal barriers that prevent finishing.
